Two Nazanins

Bodog recording artist Nazanin’s struggle to save the life of an Iranian girl who shares her name

On January 3, 2006, 18 year-old Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi was sentenced to death by the Iranian courts after she stabbed one of three men who attempted to rape her and her 16 year-old niece. When singer/songwriter and human rights activist Nazanin heard about the trial, the injustice propelled her to take action.

The Save Nazanin campaign generated over 350,000 signatures worldwide and received the attention of the UN, Amnesty International and others. On June 1st 2006, the Head of Judiciary Ayatollah Shahroudi stayed the execution and called for a retrial on January 10th, 2007. The original verdict was overturned and Nazanin Fatehi was released from prison.
